Early Life
Celine Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, the youngest of fourteen children in a musical French-Canadian family. Her parents ran a small piano bar, and Celine began singing with her siblings as a child, performing at the family's venue from a very young age.
At twelve, she and her mother wrote her first song, which was sent to manager Rene Angelil, who was so struck by her voice that he mortgaged his house to fund her first record. He would become her longtime manager and, later, her husband.
Rise to Fame
Dion became a star in the French-speaking world through the late 1970s and 1980s, winning the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1982 and representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, which she won. She then spent time relearning English to break into the North American market.
Her English-language breakthrough came with the album Unison in 1990, followed by soundtrack hits like "Beauty and the Beast" with Peabo Bryson, which won a Grammy and an Academy Award, establishing her as a major crossover pop vocalist.

She went on to headline an extraordinarily successful Las Vegas residency, A New Day…, from 2003 to 2007, followed by a second residency beginning in 2011, cementing her as one of the most successful live performers in the city's history. Across her career she has sold more than 250 million records worldwide.

In 2022, Dion revealed she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that had forced her to pause touring. She has since spoken publicly about the condition and its effect on her ability to perform, while continuing to make occasional public appearances.
