AMERICA'S FASTEST MAN AND TRACK'S BIGGEST PERSONALITY

Noah Lyles

b. 1997 · Athlete

Early Life

Noah Lyles was born on July 18, 1997, in Gainesville, Florida, and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, after his parents’ divorce. He was homeschooled for part of his childhood while managing asthma, later attending public school. Lyles has openly discussed living with asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and depression, and has been candid about the resilience it has taken to manage those challenges throughout his life and career.

Originally a gymnast, Lyles transitioned to track and field at age 12. Watching the 2012 Olympics inspired him and his brother, Josephus, to pursue professional sprinting, and he went on to attend T.C. Williams High School, now Alexandria City High School, earning national athlete-of-the-year honors in both 2015 and 2016.

Rise to Fame

Lyles turned professional in 2016, signing with Adidas and opting to skip college to focus fully on his sprinting career. He earned dual gold medals at the 2016 World U20 Championships in the 100 meters and 4x100m relay, establishing himself as an emerging talent despite missing the 2016 Olympic team.

At the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Lyles captured gold in the 200 meters and the 4x100m relay, beginning a run of dominance in the sprints that would define the following several years of his career.

Career Highlights

At the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Lyles achieved a rare "sprint triple," winning gold in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100m relay, becoming a three-time world 100m champion and surpassing Michael Johnson’s long-standing 200-meter championship record. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he won gold in the 100 meters with a personal best of 9.79 seconds, the first American victory in the event since 2004, edging Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by just 0.005 seconds in one of the closest finishes in Olympic history. He later won bronze in the 200 meters after testing positive for COVID-19 two days before the race, collapsing afterward and withdrawing from relay competition.

Returning from injury in 2025, Lyles won the Monaco Diamond League 200 meters and claimed bronze in the 100 meters at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo while capturing his fourth consecutive 200-meter world title. In June 2026, he set a 150-meter curved-track world best of 14.67 seconds at the Golden Spike Ostrava meet.

Personal Life

In October 2024, Lyles became engaged to Jamaican track athlete Junelle Bromfield, and the two married on April 4, 2026.

Outside of athletics, Lyles is known as an enthusiastic anime fan and frequently carries Yu-Gi-Oh! cards during competitions, part of a larger-than-life public persona that has helped raise the profile of track and field among younger fans.

Net Worth & Legacy

Noah Lyles’ net worth is estimated in the millions of dollars, built through prize money, appearance fees, and a longstanding endorsement partnership with Adidas.

From a childhood managing asthma, dyslexia, and ADHD to becoming a three-time world 100-meter champion and an Olympic gold medalist in one of the tightest finishes ever recorded, Lyles has combined elite performance with an outspoken, charismatic public presence that has made him one of track and field’s most recognizable ambassadors.
