Taylor Swift has reached a milestone only one other act in music history can claim. With The Life of a Showgirl back on top of the Billboard 200, Swift has now spent 100 career weeks at No. 1 on the albums chart, Billboard reported. She is the first solo artist to get there. The only other act with 100 weeks at No. 1 is the Beatles, who logged 132 between 1964 and 2001.
The Encore effect
The surge came from The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a deluxe edition released September 25 that adds four previously unreleased songs. One of them, “Patient Zero,” went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Because Billboard counts the deluxe and original versions as a single album, the reissue sent Showgirl from No. 21 back to No. 1 on the chart dated October 10.
The album has held the top spot ever since, through the chart dated October 24, bringing its total to 15 weeks at No. 1 and Swift’s career count to 101 weeks. Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love sits at No. 2, followed by Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem, Ella Langley’s Dandelion and Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide.
Chasing the record
Swift still needs 32 more weeks at No. 1 to match the Beatles’ all-time mark. Her total is spread across more than a dozen chart-topping albums dating back to 2008’s Fearless, which spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on its own. Billboard publishes the next chart, reflecting this past week’s sales and streams, next weekend.
