Al Pacino is getting his peers’ highest honor. SAG-AFTRA announced on Thursday, October 15, that the 86-year-old actor will receive its Life Achievement Award, recognizing both his career and his humanitarian work. He will be the 62nd recipient of the award, which will be presented at the 33rd Actor Awards on February 28, 2027, at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The ceremony will stream live on Netflix.

In a statement, Pacino said he has always felt at home with a script in his hands and among his fellow actors, and that the work, and the people he has met through it, have been some of the greatest joys of his life. SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin called him a master of his craft and said watching him perform is like watching a student and a master at the same time.

Six decades of roles

Born Alfredo James Pacino in New York City, he struggled to find steady work through the 1960s before his breakthrough as Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972), a role he played across all three films. He went on to play Frank Serpico in Serpico (1973) and Tony Montana in Scarface (1983), won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Scent of a Woman (1992), and more recently appeared as Marvin Schwarz in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood (2019). His career honors include an Oscar, two Tony Awards, two Emmys and two Actor Awards.

The award also cites his charitable work, including his part in the America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon after the September 11 attacks and the Arthritis Foundation’s Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award he received in 2009.
