Baseball’s final four is set. The Cleveland Guardians claimed the last spot on Saturday night, shutting out the Chicago White Sox 2-0 in Game 5 of their American League Division Series at Progressive Field.

Cleveland’s comeback

The Guardians lost the first two games of the series at home, then won twice in Chicago to force a deciding game. CBS Sports noted they are just the 11th team in MLB history to come back from an 0-2 hole in a best-of-five postseason series. In Game 5, Guardians pitchers struck out 21 White Sox hitters and allowed just three hits, per ESPN, and José Ramírez supplied the offense with a two-run homer. Gavin Williams, who had recorded the final outs of Game 4 two days earlier, made the start.

It is a painful exit for Chicago, which reached the postseason after three straight 100-loss seasons and won its first playoff series in over two decades by sweeping Houston in the Wild Card round.

The matchups

ALCS: Cleveland heads to St. Petersburg to face the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays, who swept the New York Yankees in their division series. Game 1 is Monday.

NLCS: The Los Angeles Dodgers, chasing a third straight World Series title, visit the Milwaukee Brewers for Game 1 tonight, Sunday, October 11, at 7 p.m. Central. Milwaukee holds home-field advantage after a franchise-record 103 wins. This is a rematch of last year’s NLCS, which the Dodgers swept. Both teams won their division series in four games, the Dodgers over Atlanta and the Brewers over San Diego. Milwaukee is still looking for its first pennant and has not reached the World Series since 1982.
