The video-game adaptation Street Fighter knocked out the competition at the North American box office over October 16–18, opening at No. 1 with an estimated $31 million from 3,575 theaters, including $4 million from Thursday previews. Paramount released the film, which Legendary Pictures produced with Capcom and which stars Noah Centineo. Another $20.1 million from 65 international markets gave it a $51.1 million global start, according to Boxoffice Pro. Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore, and its budget is reported to be under $100 million.

A documentary makes history

The weekend’s biggest surprise came in second place. You Can See Everything, A24’s roughly three-hour documentary from Nathan Fielder (Nathan for You, The Rehearsal) and Lance Oppenheim, took an estimated $15 million from just 855 screens, a per-screen average of about $17,500. The film follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in her final days before reporting to prison.

Boxoffice Pro reported it is the second-biggest opening ever for a non-fiction film, behind only Fahrenheit 9/11‘s $23.9 million in 2004, and one of the largest debuts for any film playing on fewer than 1,000 screens. The film played more than 2,000 sold-out shows and earned a 4.8 average on Letterboxd, the highest the platform has recorded.
